Magic

Submitted by Damselfly

My mind has had a hard time coming out of its winter slumber this spring season.  The weather has not been helpful.  Our “spring” has been wet and dreary.  The bright spot has been warmer temperatures.  With the warmth of the air and the growth of all things green, I start to think of the celebration of life.

February

Submitted by Damselfly

I have found myself in a bit of an energy slump over the past couple of weeks.  I am getting through the things I have to do, but when done with the “must dos”, I would rather curl up with Jaxon and a book rather than tackle some of the “want to dos” on my list.  It is February.

Flashcard!

Submitted by Damselfly

Jaxon was kind enough to wake me up at 4:10 AM.  Nature call. Ugh.  I dutifully followed him to the door and took him for his routine walk around the yard.  As we made our way to his favorite spots, the sky lit up.  Shortly after, a rumble of thunder sounded in the distance.  A storm was coming.

Granny Harris

Submitted by Damselfly

There are some words you hear (or read) that automatically make you smile.  Maybe it is “puppies”.  Maybe it is “chocolate” (or “gin and tonic)”. Despite the fact that she has been gone many years, I cannot say “Granny Harris” without a smile.

Today was Granny’s birthday. Today is the reason friends and family (FRAmily) will be partying tomorrow.  Rain or shine, we will be smiling.

Happiness

Submitted by Damselfly

Every morning I wake up early.  It is usually well before sunrise, especially this time of year.  I take Jaxon out, drink a big glass of water, and think about how wonderful my first cup of coffee is going to taste.  I sit down with my coffee, and open my “gratitude journal”.  Today, the quote written at the top of the page read:

“Happiness is a how; not a what.  A talent, not an object.”  Herman Hesse

Family Ties

Submitted by Damselfly

Yesterday I left the homestead well before daylight and drove to Mum’s.  My Uncle John, who is 84 years young, stayed the night before.  The three of us journeyed to the airport for a trip south.  This weekend, we are joining with family in the Deep South to celebrate the life of our dear Miss Willie!
Miss Willie was married to their brother, The Colonel.  Her birthday this year celebrates her 85th year of life.  Her children, my cousins, are throwing a birthday bash for her and that is why we are here.

Happy Thanksgiving

Submitted by Damselfly

I was a bit disgusted last night as I watched commercials flashing during the evening news.  Businesses were bragging about their doors being open on Thanksgiving Day, which to me meant that workers would not have an opportunity to be with family or friends, and people would be out shopping rather than taking time to stop and savor the day. Ah well… freedom.

The Wizard Returns

Submitted by Damselfly

This summer, Mum had an issue with her mower.  A neighbor was using his big tractor to mow her yard, but circumstances prevented him from doing so later in the season.  She needed a mower.  I asked Hubby if we could give her our mower and search for another option for ourselves.  He knows my stubborn nature and quickly agreed to my plan and we delivered the mower to her.  Happy Mum!

Kid Time

Submitted by Damselfly

I have had a hard time focusing over the past couple of months.  It is highly unusual for me.  Generally, I am focused and move through my day with little mental effort.  Not lately.  I get through the early morning knocking tasks off of my list.  Then noontime comes and I hit a wall.  I am tired, feeling like I am moving through molasses.
